Nearby Share for Windows is a feature that facilitates file sharing between Windows PCs and Android devices. With approximately 3 billion active Android devices worldwide, Nearby Share offers a convenient way to share files across various devices such as phones, tablets, and Chromebooks. Earlier this year, a beta version of Nearby Share was released, enabling support for Windows PCs and allowing users to connect their PCs with nearby Android devices.

Since its beta launch, Nearby Share for Windows has been downloaded by over 1.7 million people globally. The most popular file types shared are photos and videos, resulting in over 50 million files transferred between PCs and Android devices. This feature eliminates the need for cables or cords, making it effortless to share media with your own devices or with friends and family nearby.

What's new with Nearby Share on your PC:

Since the beta release in March 2023, Android has made significant improvements in terms of speed and reliability. Updates have been implemented to reduce crashes and enhance the success rate of file transfers. Alongside the official launch, the Nearby Share for Windows app now includes the following product improvements:

  1. Estimated Transfer Time: Users can now see the estimated time for file transfers to be completed. This feature is particularly useful when sharing large files such as videos or entire folders, allowing users to gauge the transfer speed.

  2. Image Preview in Notifications: Notifications now include image previews, providing a visual confirmation of the shared file. This helps ensure that the correct file is being shared.

Coming to Nearby Share on Windows:

To further streamline sharing between Android devices and PCs, partnerships with companies like HP have been established. The Nearby Share app will be included on select Windows PCs, including the HP Dragonfly Pro, making the sharing experience even more seamless. Ongoing development efforts will focus on adding new functionality and incorporating user feedback to enhance Nearby Share for Windows.

To take advantage of Nearby Share for Windows, users can download the app from the official website and refer to the Help Center for additional information.
