Ready to learn how you can use Databricks with Microsoft Fabric? Patrick shows you how you can integrate the data and enable the MAGIC of Fabric

With the advent of Microsoft Fabric, integration of Databricks data with it has become possible. Fabric, as a unified analytics platform, offers diverse functionalities like Data Engineering, Data Factory, Data Science, Data Warehouse, Real-Time Analytics, and Power BI. Azure Databricks is a suite of tools for deploying enterprise-level data and AI solutions and is compatible with Fabric's functionalities.

Azure Databricks has a large-scale adoption due to its versatile usage as a data processing and analytics engine and a data science platform. Fabric's integration with OneLake, a unified SaaS data lake, enables storage of all organizational data in one place, thereby simplifying the overall data journey. OneLake functions as a single SaaS data lake, eliminating data silos and permitting connections to existing data with shortcuts.

  • Shortcuts function as symbolic links, enabling a live data connection to a targeted location from another place.
  • Shortcuts can be created for any data within OneLake or other external data lakes like Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (ADLS Gen2) or Amazon S3.
  • Azure Databricks, used as a general-purpose data and analytics processing engine, is employed for building many data lakes today.
  • It works with ADLS Gen2, storing physical data, and transforms it using Azure Databricks.
  • By creating shortcuts to this existing ADLS data, it becomes accessible through OneLake and Microsoft Fabric.

Diving Deeper

The integration of Databricks and Microsoft Fabric brings immense potential to developers. Transformations and other data manipulations done in Databricks can be readily consumed in OneLake by creating shortcuts. Power BI in Microsoft Fabric operates in direct lake mode, allowing fundamentally quicker querying of data in OneLake. Depending on usage and requirements, Databricks also supports Azur Data Lake Storage Gen2 and Amazon S3, providing extensive flexibility. This cooperative approach of all these services under the Fabric platform ensures a smoother, faster, and more efficient data management practice.

With Microsoft Fabric and Azure Databricks, organizations can now create a unified analytics platform that brings together all the data and analytics tools they need. Fabric enables data engineering, data factory, data science, data warehouse, real-time analytics, and Power BI to be seamlessly integrated into one service.

Microsoft OneLake is an open and governed SaaS data lake that serves as the single place to store organizational data. Azure Databricks can work with OneLake to simplify an organization's overall data journey. Organizations can create shortcuts to their existing data stored in Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 or Amazon S3, allowing Power BI in Microsoft Fabric to query the data with fast performance. Furthermore, Azure Databricks can be used to transform and clean the data stored in ADLS Gen2, which can then be connected to OneLake using shortcuts. By leveraging Azure Databricks and Microsoft Fabric, organizations can create a unified analytics platform that is able to bring together all the data and analytics tools they need in a single service.
