Roadmap to a Quantum Supercomputer: Microsoft has outlined its path towards the creation of a quantum supercomputer. They've identified three levels of quantum computing implementation - foundational, resilient, and scale. A major breakthrough is required to reach the 'Scale' level, and Microsoft has recently achieved a significant milestone on this journey by successfully creating and controlling Majorana quasiparticles, which are essential for building reliable logical qubits.

Microsoft's quantum supercomputer will aim to solve complex problems that are currently unsolvable using classical computers. To evaluate its performance, Microsoft proposes a new measurement metric called reliable Quantum Operations Per Second (rQOPS), which assesses the full system performance rather than only the performance of
individual qubits.

Several industry innovators, including BASF, AkzoNobel, AspenTech, Johnson Matthey, SCGC, and 1910 Genetics, are already using Azure Quantum Elements for their R&D. Microsoft is also committed to a quantum-safe future and is working towards ensuring the security of all its services while helping its customers transition into this new technological era.
